Check out all the fun we had!
A few weeks ago (before the snow), the 5th grade got to work with visiting artist Megan Sauter to create two more murals for Yates this year. After discussing water sheds with Mr. Radner, the students worked in art to paint their animals and plants onto ceramic tiles with the artist. The murals will go up before the end of the year near the front foyer water fountain as well as the fountain outside Mr. Radner's room. Check out all the fun we had!

As we being our glass unit, I wanted to share the videos and powerpoint I will be using to introduce the technique and one of my favorite artists with the students; Dale Chihuly. The powerpoint introduces the materials and techniques used to create many types of current day artwork made of glass. I took a class on glassblowing back in the winter of 2013 in Berea. The powerpoint shares some of the images from that experience. The videos are from YouTube. It showcases some of Daly Chihuly's earlier work but also his growth of how his work has evolved to today's magical experiences he creates. You can see some of his work in person by visiting the Maker's Mark distillery in Loretto, KY. I can't believe it is already time for our second free art day. We had a whooping 17 classes ready for free art day this week! I'm so impressed with their behavior during art.
The following classes are earning free art day this week: Lynch Noblitt Barr Byrd Rodriguez Ault Crist Prince McDowell Nichols Hill Chaney Beckham VanFossen Pascucci Hitz Whittington I'm so excited for all the fun new projects we are starting when we return to school. We are going to start our medium units. We will do units on glass, clay, and papier mache. We are going to make some awesome things.
Watch for new pictures on our gallery pages and some cool projects coming home. This week we have started our unit on color. Every class will be talking about colors, how they are mixed, how we use the color wheel to identify colors, and how we use them in art and everyday life! We will talk about color and its different aspects until we go on holiday break. Look to see what kinds of wonderful color projects come home! The first grade will be making color wheel chameleons. The following video is one they will watch too! Our Veterans Day assembly will happen Tuesday, November 11th from 8-9 am in the gym. Come and help us celebrate our Veterans!
I am so super proud of my 16 classes that have earned free art day this week!
